I love visiting the Blombos that grow in the Skulpiesbaai Nature Reserve. The painting depicts the dance of a Blombos directed by the sun, swept by the wind and salted by the sea as she pirouettes towards the light. Each year these beings grow like old friends, settling in their unique forms that are as pleasing as a whole as in there minutest detail. Quick repetitive brushstrokes put me in a meditative state as the bush reaches and grows on the canvas. Loosing myself in the alternating leave patterns of stiff needle-like strokes, twisted and twirled in greens and grooved with white. Each long-lasting stem ending with a creamy flat topped flowerhead lifted on reddish florets, so densely crowded in papery perfection.
