Langeberg Baardsuikerbos

When hiking in the Langeberg I came across a Protea neriifolia that inspired this painting. The flower heads create a dramatic pattern with their silky cream bracts tipped with black beards against the green leaves. Painted in smooth, broad brushstrokes to create the movement of the leaves in the wind. The flowers are painted flat in a decorative style to focus the attention on the distinct black and white pattern.
