‘Collective Ascent’
In Heike’s oil pastel artwork, she sought to create a visual exploration of the verses of Davina E Solomon’s poem, Collective Ascent”.
Through interplay of colours symbolising fynbos, spray, wind and the elements and vibrant strokes, lines and circular motions her artwork embodies the metaphorical ascent and universal movement depicted in the poem.
Amidst this ‘landscape’, she has interwoven elements of fragility and hope and lines symbolising the words of Davina’s poem:
“Leaves, akin to a flat-lined heart, lie prone, while reeds stand resilient, pulsating with the promise of renewal. The Sunday sun dips into the ocean, its golden yolk signalling the cyclical nature of life and the assurance of a new dawn.”
The artwork serves as a visual ode to the enduring spirit of womanhood and the beauty that emerges from collective ascent in the face of adversity.”
