The White-fronted Plover is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa and the most abundant plover found on the coast, preferring sandy beaches with rocky areas. These plovers only have one mate at a time when breeding, and generally stays with that mate for a long time. They nest in the sand close to driftwood, plants, rocks or shells creating a disruptive background, camouflaging the nest. Their chicks can feed themselves after hatching and the parents may lead them to foraging grounds about 2km from their nest.
