Suikerbos

Protea repens also known as the common sugarbush or Opregte Suikerbos” is endemic to South Africa and can be found in the Western and Eastern parts of Cape Town where it forms part of the Fynbos biome. The name is derived from the large amounts of sugary nectar that the flowers produce that attract various insects, bees and nectar-feeding birds such as the Cape Sugarbird and sunbirds. The nectar was also commonly collected in the 19th century and boiled into a syrup which acted as a sweetener and a medicine to cure coughs.”
