The long shadows the artist captured of a pincushion protea and glass-headed pins late afternoon, left her curious as to the shadows which would be cast at midday with the sun directly overhead. The next day shortly before noon she ventured outside to the same spot as the afternoon before. As expected, the shadows were shorter but no less interesting. What was completely unexpected was the effect of the bright noonday sun on the glass-headed pins with some transformed into spectacular flashes of light.
