Geel Tolbos

This painting is inspired by a Cone bush in my garden that belongs to the Leucadendron genus of the Fynbos family. The brilliant yellow elliptical leaves look like streaks of cadmium squeezed from paint tubes. Painted in bold cadmium yellow and ochre brushstrokes to capture their leathery feel and attractive shape. The florets formed by overlapping bracts conceal the young cone heads hidden like their secret futures in their fruits.
